YR Travel

This project was a two week designsprint in collaboration with YR. The brief was fairly open: create some sort of feature in a chosen weather app. I chose to work with the YR app, and more spesifically the map mode (a view where you can see how rain and wind moves across the country over time). This caught my attention due to the fact that I could never see myself using it. My self composed task was therefore to create a context or situation where this map mode would be beneficial.

Process
My first step was to create different scenarios where map views could be useful. Here I explored several situations, but I eventually chose to explore a travel function, due to a recent experience where heavy snow made me and my car end up in a ditch.
The idea is that whenever you're being stationary, such as being home or at work, seeing how the weather moves over your position is not really that beneficial. While traveling on the other hand, seeing how the weather would influence your journey could be information that ensures safety and efficiency
I then quickly sketched out an early prototype using elements from NRK's design system.
Delivery
Feedback from testing was that it should be easy to change departure time, as that could help the user plan their trip. Also, giving some indication of an alternate route in case of bad weather could assist the users in making safe descisions. I then integrated all the feedback into the final prototype.
